2016 State League One Round 21 – Result:

FC Footscray (Futsal Club) (3rd) 5-3 (1st) Preston Futsal Club

FOOT – Meh.Chowdhury 3, B.Wojcik, Min.Chowdhury
PRE – N.Jamieson 3

With Footscray needing a win to keep their hopes alive of finishing in the third spot, they came out firing against the champions Preston. Led by Mehraz Chowdhury Footscray got themselves out to a healthy 3-0 halftime lead all while playing quality futsal. Preston decided to reintroduce Nikolas Jamieson to the team after missing weeks due to injury in hopes of claiming this seasons golden boot award. 3 goals to Jamieson meant he jumps 2 ahead of Nic Ormond from Monash who is yet to play, however the bigger story is with the 3 points Footscray have all but secured a playoff spot barring huge wins from Vermont or Doncaster.

Man of the Match – Mehraz Chowdhury (FC Footscray)

Doncaster Futsal Club (5th) 6-8 (7th) Melbourne University Futsal Club

DON – J.Koh 2, A.Alhaji 2, W.Ong, C.Hoebreck
MU – M.Antachew 3, S.Lally 3, L.Jester, T.Zeitlhofer

With Footscray winning the game before Doncaster was left with the mammoth task of winning by 12 goals top jump into 3rd spot. It started well for Doncaster who raced out to a quick 4-1 lead and looked on track to make a miracle happen. Melbourne Uni were not ready to roll over as the big scorers in Menas Antachew and Sean Lally turned it on both bagging hat tricks to rip away any hope for Doncaster. With Doncaster devastated Melbourne Uni were able to run over the top of them and finish 2 goal winners.

CF South Melbourne (7th) 1-5 (8th) Toorak Futsal Club

SM – S.Hosseini
TOO – J.Tanean 3, R.Daniswara, J.Ruslim

Locked in the bottom two places South Melbourne and Toorak were playing for pride. With 1 point after 20 games, Toorak were the underdogs coming in although the play of the game was very tight ending 1-0 at half time. Toorak’s star player Julian Ruslim really took the game on in the second half as he willed his team on aiming for their first win of the season. With Jonathan Tanean finishing off his chances Toorak finally managed to get their first win of the season in the last round, a confidence booster before they start next seasons campaign in State League Two.

2016 State League One Round 21 – Result:

Vermont Futsal Club (4th) 6-9 (2nd) Monash Futsal Club

VER – H.Leung 2, E.Benjamin 2, C.Yang, A.Lee
MON – J.Zomaya 3, S.Carr 2, S.Barkho 2, J.Bernard, J.Garcia

After Doncaster failed to beat Melbourne Uni it was left to Vermont with the last chance of making 3rd spot and taking the playoff place off Footscray. Vermont needing to attack came out aggressively, but against the team with the most goals scored of all the Elite Leagues it was Monash who capitalised and got ahead taking advantage of the Vermont shortage at the back. Leading 4-3 at half time Monash had the advantage, however Vermont kept pressing and eventually used Chris Yang as a fly goalkeeper in an effort to reach the 10 goal margin they needed to win by. While mildly effective, Monash were too good and punished Vermont for having nobody in goals as Monash ran away with the game at the end to win by 3, Vermont only managing 4th place.

Man of the Match – Jake Zomaya (Monash FC)
