League One’s first game of the night saw the undefeated Hampton coming up against the winless South Melbourne. Despite the conditions on the table, it was the under-dogs South Melbourne that took a 1-0 lead into the half-time break. The game opened up slightly in the second half, and before long South Melbourne found themselves with a 3-1 lead and the chance to end Hampton’s undefeated run. A goal from goalkeeper Nick Dean swung the affair into Hampton’s favour. With two quick after-shock goals, the game ended 4-3 in Hampton’s favour. Disappointment for South Melbourne, but they’ll feel confident going forward having almost knocked off the top team. Hampton’s streak continues for now, how long will they be able to ride this wave?

Both teams came into this game with the three points in the front of their mind. But it was Doncaster that came out firing, securing themselves a strong position on the game by half-time, with a 3-0 lead. Their performance continued into the second half, pushing out to a 5 goal lead. Vermont felt the game being retched from their grasp, and chose to play with their keeper as a fifth-man. This helped them to score twice in the match, but also cost them an additional two goals, resulting in the final scoreline of 2-7. Doncaster will be happy with their performance to get the win, while Vermont have an idea of what to work on before next week’s game.

As we got toward the late clashes of the night an intriguing clash between two teams who have underperformed this season by their own standards faced off. Like all games tonight it was close in the first half as both teams looked evenly matched bagging two goals each. The start of the second half played out much the same as the game threatened to break open and at 3-3 a header from Mike Ayayi did just that. Mt Evelyn would then add another two goals in a row to stretch the lead out to 3 to finish off Footscray.

As Melbourne took on the Uni in the last game of the night passions were flowing in an intense encounter. Uni were the only team to score in the first half as Menas Antachew beat Kitharidis to lead 1-0. The excitement and tension only escalated in the second half as both teams were not giving an inch going goal for goal in a fascinating affair. With only 2 minutes remaining Uni tied the game at 4-4 but a late goal from Mo Ibrahim sealed a tight win in the game of the round.
