Injury forces da Silva to the sidelines

Leading Pascoe Vale FC player Joao da Silva could miss up to two weeks of Series Futsal Victoria action after suffering a calf strain in last Sunday’s match against Fitzroy.

Da Silva played only the 10 minutes of the first half before going down with a injury to his left leg.

The Brazilian had played a starring role for Pascoe Vale in its Series Futsal Australia bid two weeks ago, and was at the top of his game against Fitzroy too, but the injury will see him miss this week’s game against Metropolitan FC.

Da Silva says that he is aiming to miss only one week, but may need more time to recover.

“I got hit in the leg and I kept playing. I probably should have taken myself off,” he told SeriesFutsal.com.

“I watched the live stream back and I saw I got hit. I think it has over stretched. It is getting better slowly. It is much better now, but it is still sore.

“I will miss this week, 100 percent, and I’m not sure about the following week either. We’ll just have to see.”

It is the second time within the past few months that da Silva has been crippled with injury. At the end of last season, da Silva spent a number of weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring complaint.

Da Silva did say, though, that before he leaps back into the mens league, he will test his leg in the SFV youth league first.

Reigning champions Pascoe Vale take on Metropolitan at 5:20pm this Sunday. Pascoe Vale has won all three of its matches this season, while Metro is yet to record a win and is running the risk of relegation, if its current form continues.
