2016/17 State League One – Round 14:

Doncaster Futsal Club (2nd) 2-9 (1st) Hampton Street Futsal Club

DON – C.Hoebreck, A.Alhaji
HAM – A.Sahiti 2, D.Grecea 2, R.Langerak 2, O.Hummeyj-Jameson, T.Topali, G.Rowley

Challengers Doncaster took on top of the table Hampton to wrap up their seasons early before the Christmas break. The Doncaster squad which was ravaged by players leaving for the break started slowly as Hampton took control of the game from the get go. Hampton was not in holiday mode yet as 5 different goalscorers put on 6 goals to nothing in the first half to blow Doncaster away. Two more goals in the second period helped Langerak and Grecea get doubles made it 8-0 before two late goals from Doncaster helped steady the scoreline a little with Hampton walking away 9-2 winners. For Doncaster their title blow took a huge hit tonight and will now be fighting for second while they await the return of their players as Hampton go 6 points clear at the top.

Man of the Match – Rueben Langerak (Hampton FC)

2016/17 State League One – Round 14:

Melbourne University Futsal Club (6th) 6-4 (7th) Vermont Futsal Club

MU – F.Huzzey 2, E.Park 2, E.Tasker, T.Mullumby
VER – J.Lang, S.Goh, T.Miran, H.Nguyen

A lower table clash set off the regular Wednesday night fixture. From kickoff it looked although 7th placed Vermont were fired up, hoping to create some breathing room between themselves and the relegation spot at the bottom of the table they took a 3-1 lead early in the first half. Melbourne Uni showed themselves up to the challenge however, scoring two quick goals and levelling the score at 3-3 going into the halftime break. Again in the second half Vermont brought heat from the kickoff, finding the first goal after the restart. However it wasn’t enough to stave off the Melbourne Uni squad. Who; after three goals in the second half, managed to take the 3 points, now find themselves in hot contention for the safe 5th spot on the table. The 6-4 loss means that Vermont remain on a knifes edge between playoffs and relegation.

Man of the Match – Finn Huzzey (Melbourne Uni FC)

2016/17 State League One – Round 14:

Mt. Evelyn Futsal Club (4th) 0-3 (8th) CF South Melbourne

MTE –
SM – A.Meibusch, L.Flechtmann, J.Chapman

With Uni winning and Footscray yet to play there were 3 teams on 19 points including Mt Evelyn while South Melbourne were hoping to go into Christmas off the foot of the table. It was a slow start for an undermanned Mt Evelyn in what looked to be a long game for them after Alex Meibusch opened the scoring to help South Melbourne take an unlikely 1-0 lead into the half. Mt Evelyn in the second period tried to hit back but South Melbourne’s new recruits were finally settled in with Joe Chapman also scoring. It was not just the new players for South Melbourne however as the old guard stood up when it counted with Lenz Flechtmann getting on the scoreboard and the always hard working Samuel Mander who produced a man of the match performance to help South Melbourne jump Vermont as we go into the break.

Man of the Match – Samuel Mander (CF South Melbourne)

2016/17 State League One – Round 14:

FC Footscray (Futsal Club) (5th) 1-1 (3rd) FC Melbourne Athletic

FOOT – Min.Chowdhury
MEL – D.Araujo

Footscray’s win streak was cut by Doncaster last week and they faced another tough task as they took on Melbourne who knew that for them a win would put them into second place. In a tight first half with no love shared between both teams it was Daniel Araujo who was the difference to help Melbourne be in front by the end of the half. The second half heated up even more than the first as tempers started to flair with more fouls and bookings forthcoming. Mo Ibrahim was sent his marching orders for a second bookable offence and Footscray capitalised with Minhaz Chowdhury making it game on when he finished past Kitharidis to tie up the game. Melbourne’s discipline almost cost them again as a 6th foul gave Footscray the chance to go in front but a big save from Harry Kitharidis denied Mehraz Chowdhury as the scores remained tied until the final whistle in a entertaining end to the year for the State League One.

Man of the Match – Harry Kitharidis (FC Melbourne)
