Vermont Futsal Club (7th) 3-5 (6th) Mt. Evelyn Futsal Club

VER – H.Nguyen, S.Tran, K.Trac
MTE – A.Vo 2, S.Ung, E.Truong, S.Gebru

Underdogs Vermont got off to a great start against Mt Evelyn when Harold Nguyen buried the ball into the bottom corner off a side ball set play before Simon Tran doubled the lead. Mt Evelyn upped their physicality and intensity and hit back when Edward Truong scored before Anthony Vo smashed a toe poke from an impossible angle over the head of Ngo to level the scores. A deflected shot from Sok Ung would give Mt Evelyn a come from behind lead at the half. With 10 minutes remaining in the match Kenneth Trac turned out the clutches of two defenders and hit the ball past Robertson to bring the game to 3-3 but the lead did not last long when 5 minutes later Solomon Gebru started and finished a counter attack to regain the lead. New recruit from Collingwood Anthony Vo who arrived in Round 11 sealed off the game and his best performance yet for the club when he slid the ball into the bottom left corner for all 3 points.

2016/17 State League One – Round 18:

FC Footscray (Futsal Club) (4th) 4-5 (1st) Hampton Street Futsal Club

FOOT – A.Giansanti 2, Min.Chowdhury, A.Brolis
HAM – O.Hummenyj-Jameson 4, D.Grecea

Last time these two teams met Footscray upset the league leaders with a gutsy victory so Hampton knew that they would have to be at their best tonight. In a tight first half it was Orien Hummenyj-Jameson who stood out as he scored all of his teams 3 goals to put them ahead after Andrea Giansanti and Minhaz Chowdhury had scored for Footscray. Hampton wasted no time in extending their lead and with Daniel Grecea joining in with another goal from Hummenyj-Jameson they extended their lead out to make Footscray chase the game. A late goal from Alessandro Brolis finally converted the Footscray pressure but with 10 seconds left their was not enough time for an equaliser as the clock ran out with Hampton winners once more.

FC Melbourne Athletic (3rd) 2-2 (8th) CF South Melbourne

MEL – B.Oussayfi, E.Evans
SM – D.Cannizarro, B.Wojcik

Melbourne were missing their 4 top goalscorers when they took on a determined South Melbourne who were ready to pounce. In a tight first half in which both goal keepers shined the two teams were split by a moment of magic from David Cannizzaro as he scored one of the goals of the season when cracked a wicked free kick from half way that curled into the top right corner. South Melbourne continued to hold their lead through the second half until Bilal Oussayfi struck back for Melbourne and it was game on. With 5 minutes remaining a big scramble around the Melbourne goal ended unfortunately as Bernard Wojcik put the ball into his own net as South Melbourne now looked to have escaped last place. Their hearts were broken sadly when with 60 seconds on the clock captain Ed Evans made sure his Melbourne side would not be defeated as he scored locking the scores at 2-2.

Man of the Match – Gyula Jakab (CF South Melbourne)

DON – M.Alkhridah, A.Lee, J.Abela, H.Bui
MU – M.Antachew 2, T.Zeitlhofer

Doncaster got out to an early lead against Uni as their top goalscorer Alkhridah netted but this only spurred on the boys in blue who hit back through Thomas Zeitlhofer who had returned for his first game in 3 months. Menas Antachew then stepped up to the plate to bury two in a row including a chip to take them out to a 3-1 lead at the break. Doncaster responded in only 4 minutes as Jason Abela scored for the 4th time in the last 5 games before two minutes later it was all even as Alex Lee then found the net. It only went from bad to worse for Melbourne Uni when Hoang Bui scored Doncaster’s 3rd goal in under 3 minutes to completely turn the game around. From then on George Paschalidis took over as he repelled the barrage of shots at him fantastically for 10 minutes until Cedric Hoebreck use his elbow to block a shot on the line with 2 minutes to go and was sent his marching orders. Antachew stepped up to top off his hat trick but was denied by Paschalidis. From then on Doncaster scrambled for their lives as they played a man down with Paschalidis coming up big over and over to shut out Uni and claim all 3 points.
