Talking Points Round 3

Is Regent In Trouble?

After a fast finish last season the Panthers looked primed for a top 4 push this season however with a relatively quiet transfer period and 3 straight losses to start the season things are looking dire for Regent City.

Things won’t get easier this week with an in form Western Wolves side looking to make it 3 wins in 4. The Panthers need to find an answer and quick if they are to compete this season, Rahimi and Silva being a good starting point to re-build. As it stand Regent will go into round 3 as relegation favourites.

Midget Messi Proving His Worth

Moe Matar signed with Fitzroy last season in the hope of more success which he achieved however lack of game time forced him into signing for the Heart in search for more playing opportunity.

On his debut game for the Heart against Moreland Matar stood up in the 2nd half with 2 crucial goals and an assist to guide the Heart to an upset over last seasons runners up. The Heart will be pleased with his game and hope he can produce more of the same for many more games.

Fitzroy Youth Getting The Job Done

The Tigers lost many big names from last seasons Championship team with last seasons MVP Russo, Filho and Matar all finding new clubs while club legend Fernando De Moraes is on leave. This hasn’t stopped the Tigers from finding a way to be competitive with their only loss coming in a penalty shoot-out against Altona Knights.

The Tigers youth are playing some impressive Futsal with Parthimos, El Hayek, Galper and Robotis stepping up to fill the shoes of the departed. The youngest side in the league by some margin is finding a way to win and it’s great to watch.

Wolves Finding Chemistry

The Wolves are notorious for poor season starts and after their round 1 loss to the Heart it looked like they may go the same way. Manager Cicek seems determined to break that trend and with the help of signings Filho and Ahmed they have won 2 of their opening 3 games to have them sitting in the top 4.

But it’s the way they have won which has impressed people most with comfortable victories over Altona and Campbellfield after displaying team cohesion and a willingness to work hard for each other. If the Wolves maintain their trend of strong finishes coupled with a better start to the season then they will worry the top of the table come seasons end.
