Recap
Ashburton and Balwyn couldn’t be split in a roller coaster game. In what looks to be game of the round Ashburton and Balwyn did battle. Ashburton drew first blood through Sams Haidari. This was Ashburton’s biggest moment from what was otherwise a sub par first half. Balwyn moved in following the initial Ashburton goal to score twice themselves. As half time came around Balwyn looked in control of general play.
The second half continued well for Balwyn whilst Ashburton had a horror start to the half with the sending off of their keeper Omid Azami. Azami slid in to stifle a Balwyn attack but accidentally slid outside of the box and stopped the shot with his hand. Ashburton was forced to play an outfield player in goal. Following this sending off things went from bad to worse for Ashburton as Balwyn took advantage of the situation to pile on two more goals and extend their lead to three. As the final minutes of the game rolled around all looked over for Ashburton; enter Haidari. Ashburton’s lone goal scorer to this point in the game found two goals to help Ashburton equal the tally with their opponents.
The draw is detrimental to Balwyn’s chances of catching Pascoe Vale at the top of the table. Whilst the draw for Ashburton demonstrated their ability to match it with the best.
Man of the Match: Sams Haidari.
