Recap

The first game of the womens Futsal Oz Cup saw second place Fitzroy take on seventh placed Kingston Royals. In this seasons extended version of the competition which saw a quarter finals stage added both sides would be eager to book their place in the semi finals. Fitzroy had the better start when Ebru Efe opened the scoring, before Efe again found the back of the net to have Fitzroy comfortably leading 2-0. Ili Jakab struck a controversial goal from distance late in the half to have her side leading 3-0 at the half time break.

Fitzroy continued their momentum into the second half and added to their lead when Efe completed her hat trick. Efe was having a day out as she slotted home her fourth of the contest to put the game beyond doubt before a good ball to the back post from Sarah Richardson saw Zoe Schaffner tap home top make it 6-0. Chloe Drinoczky’s finish late in the contest added some polish to the result to put Fitzroy into the semi final of the cup while Kingston crash out at the first hurdle.
