Recap
Both Brunswick and Hume have started the 2016/2017 season undefeated and sitting at third and first on the table neither team will want to give up any ground in the race for the top spot.
The game was tight from the moment it started with Brunswick’s manager obviously having done his homework he had a defensive squeeze that didn’t allow Hume to play their usual attacking game. With Hume unable to break through the Brunswick defence opportunities began to arise for Brunswick to hit on the counter-attack and they did with the first goal coming from a huge hit smashing past the Hume goalkeeper to open up the scoring. The excitement of the goal led to some complacent play from the Brunswick defense as they allowed Hume to hit back quickly to equalize the score. Again the stalemate continued as both teams where incapable of breaking through one and others defense. The end of the half saw late goals to each team and the half time score read two goals all.
The second half was the same as the first as both teams struggled to score against each other. As the middle of the half approached neither team had managed to add to the goal tally as it remained two all. Finally the breakthrough came from Hume as they sliced through Brunswick’s defensive set up with great ball movement. Following the goal Brunswick began to fall apart. Copping two more quick goals to leave them three goals behind. As the final minute of the half approached it looked as though Hume had the game in the bag. That was until Brunswick’s Josh Pulvirenti pulled off an amazing volley to bring Brunswick a goal closer. They managed one more goal and with a minute left but the three goal deficit proved to much and Hume ran out winners.
