Fitzroy have staved off a resilient Hume side to secure a crucial win that keeps their title hopes alive.

Fitzroy dominated the first five minutes of the match, with Jose Filho hitting the woodwork twice before opening the scoring for his side.

Hume recovered from the slow start and they enjoyed a good passage of play where they dominated possession and had multiple chances on goal, only to be denied by Fitzroy’s keeper Michael Chami on every occasion.

Fitzroy weathered the Hume storm and scored two more goals before the half-time break, against the run of play.

The second half was more physical than the first, which suited Hume, and they threatened a comeback, twice getting within two goals of their opponents.

However, Fitzroy had an answer to all of Hume’s questions, ultimately winning the game by six goals to three.
