A ruthless second half performance from Carlton Heart has helped them cruise past Balwyn and go six points clear of their nearest challengers Fitzroy at the top of the table.

Carlton took an early lead through Ben Rigby, but Balwyn found an answer through Ben Monteleone to level the scores.

The ladder leaders were not prepared to go into the break with the scores tied though, and they regained the lead when Joey Conroy found himself unmarked and left with the simple task of tapping the ball into the open goal.

Balwyn were to desperate to score in the second half; and when they deployed the fifth-man tactic in order to try and get back into the game, it backfired and Carlton scored four times in the second period to secure a comfortable win.
